Whitebear Creations

Creating Traditional Art Since 2019

Welcome to Whitebear Creations!

My name is Brenda Francoeur – the lead dreamcatcher artist, drum maker, and wood carver, and this beautiful lady beside me is Trish – who is my daughter and lead artist, jewelry maker, and drum maker. The gentlemen standing here with us, is Doug Johnson, who is our photographer, wood carver, and organizer. We are Whitebear Creations out of Medicine Hat, AB.

Each of us came from The Pas, MB and relocated to Medicine Hat, AB. Trish and I are both Indigenous artists, and we are from the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation. We were taught our art by our elders over many years. Everything you see in front of you is handmade and hand-painted by us.

Whitebear is English for Wapasewikmaw – Cree for Whitebear, a lot of people mistake our name for the polar bear. Our name comes from the spirit bear, there are spirit bears in B.C. There are different clans in different nations, we are from the Bear Clan.

Whitebear Creations has been a dream of mine for many years. Now it has become a reality, so don’t give up on your dreams. When you work hard for it, it will become a reality. Just like Whitebear has been for us.

Beautiful Art Inspired By Our Culture

The art we create is not only beautiful, but is steeped in tradition and draws from the stories, histories, and teachings of our elders. It is an expression and acknowledgment of our Indigenous culture.
